I wanted to upload something in remembrance of those in the armed forces who have sacrificed much to secure the freedoms we have today.
Living in the UK, I have grown up with the poppy as the most recognisable symbol of remembrance, so I obviously wanted to include it in some way. After some thought, I decided to incorporate my love of the Marvel Cinematic Universe by featuring some of its characters.
I wasn't quite sure if America had adopted the wearing of poppies to the same extent as European and Commonwealth countries had, so my initial choice was Peggy Carter. Her English upbringing would certainly have made her aware of the tradition.
Understandably, the Royal British Legion's annual poppy appeal focuses on British soldiers; and there has always seemed to be more of an emphasis on the fallen soldiers who never returned home. However I wanted to ensure I acknowledged the efforts of other allied troops, and not just those who died in combat but those who returned home broken physically and mentally by what they had experienced.
With that in mind, I'm currently working on a wallpaper version which will feature some more of the World War 2 era character including Captain America and the Howling Commandos.

for his excellent photo of stars at night
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
Lest We Forget.
